Rare seven shade serpentine vase. The primary colors of black, purple, brown, orange, yellow, blue, green, plus, many mixed variations, are due to the presence of metallic oxides in the crystalline structure, such as iron, chromium, chloride, chlorite, manganese, and magnesium. 

These are hand carved from a solid rock, heat treated to harden and further enhance the vibrant colors, and then given a high luster polish. To ensure a watertight seal, they are glazed.
